AN UNUSUAL NIGHT AT KERBEL LIGHTHOUSE

Throughout her life, Honorine Le Guen, the first woman lighthouse keeper in France, took care of the Kerbel Lighthouse on a daily basis in order to guide the sailors who entered the harbor of Lorient. Today, although the improvement of navigation systems has made it obsolete, the Phare de Kerbel, always a precursor, has been transformed to become the only habitable lighthouse in France at its summit, offering each of us , the possibility of following in the footsteps of Honorine…

HOUSING

Covering an area of 20m2, the studio at the top of the lighthouse owes its access and 'accommodability' to an ingenious floor system that rises along an endless screw. In the open position, it is the door between the staircase and the studio, and when it closes, it isolates the apartment and its occupants from the rest of the world. At the top, there is an equipped kitchen (hotplates, microwave, refrigerator, coffee machine, toaster, kettle, crockery and various utensils), a table, a TV, a bed (1.60m wide and its bed linen), a bathroom with shower, toilet, and sink (and bathroom linen), and finally a heating and air conditioning system. The Lighthouse of Kerbel, from inside its studio or from its circular footbridge, offers a 360° panorama ranging from Belle-Île to the harbor of Lorient via the small sea of Gâvres, Groix, and Port-Louis.
